A song is sung in silence
Behind each human face
At times of dirge and darkness
At times of mirth and grace
Though we may try to hid this
'Tis frail-the mask we wear
When Heaven seeks to listen
To all our frets and cares
Though men see only faces
And guess at what's inside
Our Saviour's skillful hearing
Leaves no safe place to hide
At times of dirge and darkness
At times of mirth and grace
Though we may try to hid this
'Tis frail-the mask we wear
When Heaven seeks to listen
To all our frets and cares
Though men see only faces
And guess at what's inside
Our Saviour's skillful hearing
Leaves no safe place to hide
To every grief and question
And scar from sin we bear
To every fear and failure
He listens close with care
For Christ will not abandon
Before our trials are through
But rather, seeks to comfort
And strengthen us anew
No present thing or future
no depth or height above
No death or life or ruler
Can tear us from His love
No creature and no angel
No principality
Has pow'r to maim or weaken
His love for you and me
So if you song is darkened
Know that His love will hear
And let Him sing so gently
A new song in your ear.
